COMMERCE and Industry Minister Wera Mori says it is time his staff start working on creating an environment for investment in the country as a year was approaching since the hosting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Coopration (Apec) meetings.
Mori told a press conference in Port Moresby last week that hundreds of millions of kina had been spent and the department should now cultivate making a return by bringing in investors.
“It is our responsibility to cultivate that environment, we should create the impetus for the flow of investments into this country,” he said.
“We have our local issues to deal with, but we must also create an environment which will be conducive for foreign investors to come in and invest.
“We are living in the first post Apec year and we would want to see that we are now able to start doing the ground preparations so that investments will come in.”
Mori said while more attention was given to the extractive industries, agriculture remained the backbone and it was yet to be fully realised and it still needed attention.
