Morobe contractor raises concern after vehicle removed

A CONTRACTOR with the Morobe government has raised concern how his vehicle was removed “illegally” under police escort.
Terry Agai, a consultant implementing the Morobe government’s free school uniforms programme, said his project vehicle was removed by some men under police escort from the provincial administration government car park overnight three weeks ago.
Agai, who was engaged by the previous government, has a valid contract until 2019 to supply all schools in the province with free uniforms.
His project vehicle LBP 447 was, however, impounded as new Governor Ginson Saonu and his administration were in the process of reviewing Agai’s services.
While this was going on, a group of men under police escort used wires to open the vehicle, start it and drive away.
“I was informed of the theft next morning by the provincial administration’s security guards,” Agai said.
“They (guards) were unable to do anything because the thugs were under police escort.
“The manner in which these people removed my vehicle is illegal and criminal in nature.
“To date I do not know where my vehicle is or who is holding on to it.”
He has laid a complaint with police regarding the matter.
Meanwhile, Lae metropolitan superintendent Anthony Wagambie said police were just providing security but the people who removed the vehicle were from the Morobe governor’s office.
“I can’t comment on this matter,” Wagambie said.
