THE government is looking to set up its own television station, Governor Luther Wenge says.
Wenge said his office was looking to get a submission through the provincial executive council (PEC) to establish a television station — Morobe TV.
He acknowledged that there were other television stations operating in the country, but felt that they did not showcase enough local culture.
“They don’t produce a lot of segments on our culture and traditions which holds us together,” he said.
“It is important that we have a TV station that provides a forum where we can exhibit those things; promote our culture, promote our languages, promote our singsing and most importantly educate the young.”
Wenge said showcasing cultural heritage was the main reason behind the idea to set up Morobe TV.
“The station would report in our languages, Yabim, Tok Pisin and English,” he added.
Wenge said one of the objectives was to revive the enthusiasm that Papua New Guineans should have in their culture.
