THE Morobe fisheries management authority has signed an agreement with the Human Development Institute to establish a campus on fishing.
It was signed by outgoing provincial programme adviser for fisheries Weti Zozingao and Dr Samuel Tam from the institute.
Zozingao said after reading an article on the  signing of an agreement between the National Fisheries Authority and HDI, he was convinced that this was the way forward for fishermen in Morobe to get relevant business and financial management training.
He said the training should help them grow their fishing businesses.
“We in the fisheries had been concentrating our training and capacity building efforts to fishermen/fish farmers on the technical aspects,” he said.
“(It should be) on the business and financial management areas to prepare them to properly manage and grow their small businesses as none of us was trained as business and financial managers that can be able to impart that knowledge.”
Zozingao told The National that the agreement paved the way for the institute to provide business and financial management training to fishermen and fish farmers in Morobe to manage their fish businesses properly.
