THE Morobe Football Association (MFA) is preparing for a possible season kick-off next month with 20 clubs showing interest compete after the Covid-19 state of emergency (SOE).
MFA president Pannu Shungai told The National yesterday that a tentative season calendar would be drawn up at a meeting with club representatives on Saturday.
“We have been planning on how we intend to run the competition and so far, about 20 clubs have shown interest but we are expecting more to come,” he said.
“We’re going to decide how to run our season as soon as the SOE is lifted.
“We will only have one round of matches for the competition, given the limited time.
“If and when the SOE is lifted, we will have less time to run the season. Clubs were already training well before the SOE was declared.
“But when the lockdown was introduced, everything was put on hold because of social distancing and restrictions on public gatherings.
“All the teams are anxious to get back to training but it’s out of our control and only the Government will decide.”
Shungai said MFA would kick off its season upon advice from the Papua New Guinea Football Association (PNGFA).
Meanwhile, clubs have been kept informed through social media during the SOE with many teams posting updates on the association’s Facebook group.
MFA has also invited new clubs to join their A and B leagues for this season with an affiliation fee of K500 for all clubs which is due on May 30.
