TEAM Morobe’s preparation towards the 7th PNG Games from Nov 18 to Dec 2 in Kimbe, West New Britain, has been progressing in spite of the deferrals.
Morobe provincial sports coordinator and technical head for Team Morobe Ludwig Peka told The National that full operation had started last week.
Morobe topped the last PNG Games, which was held in Lae, in 2014.
The Morobeans will be out to defend their champions tag with Team National Capital District, Central and perhaps East New Briton, Eastern Highlands, the Autonomous Region of Bougainville as well as host Team West New Briton.
The Morobe provincial government last year gave the team K1 million for their preparation and logistics for the games.
Peka said team coaches, officials and administrators would be called on to attend briefings on the updates of the games.
According to Peka the four main areas that are to be discussed are training preparations, athletes’ performance (fitness level, performance level and discipline), levy fee and the training programmes for the respective codes.
“Team Morobe will be working closely with the Momase High Performance Centre of Excellence on fitness and performance levels, identify injuries and do medical checkups,” Peka said.
“Twenty-four codes will represent Morobe.
“This three-month period will be an intensive time with individuals and teams training to reach peak form. Each code will run their own training programmes and as we get close to the Games will then start training as a team.
“With the preparartion going well early, the Team Morobe is hoping to bag more medals as we can.”
