MOROBE Girl Guides yesterday witnessed the enrolment and certification of 14 leaders after they completed a four-day training on basic adult leadership.
Provincial commissioner Bele Karikuru said the leaders were taught about the history and background of the organisation, principles, methods being used, links and organisational structure.
“The basic adult leaders training involved activities and songs as well as new ideas shared among the participants,” she said.
Karikuru said it was the first part of the training and the other levels would take place next year.
Currently, there are more than 300 members in the organisation who are mainly from Lae, Huon Gulf and Bulolo.
The Morobe Girl Guides is expected to move into other districts in the near future to engage more participation.
Karikuru said one of the main aims of the organisation would be to advocate against increasing violence against women and girls in society.
“This organisation’s approach to such issues in our communities is to reach out to those who are affected both in the rural and urban areas,” she said.
“It is to provide an opportunity for them to become better citizens.”
According to Karikuru, even though active approaches taken by different stakeholders to curb gender-based violence, there were still victims out there who needed support.
“There is still need for more efforts from all stakeholders.”
She thanked Morobe government for the financial support to carry out their programmes.
