THE Morobe government gave K500,000 to Australian medical ship mv Ywam (Youth With A Mission) to assist its work in the province.
This is the third year Morobe is assisting the ship since a decision to extend its services to the province in 2015. The provincial government has so far spent K3 million to support Ywam’s programme.
Governor Kelly Naru flew to Siassi from Lae on a helicopter to meet Ywam representatives at the Siassi Lutheran High School. Naru was accompanied by acting provincial administrator Sheila Harou and Siassi Local Level Government president Joel Johnson.
The ship arrived from Townsville, Australia and started treating sick people on Monday.
Naru said healthcare was an important development priority for his government. Ywam team leader Matt Scott thanked the Morobe Government for its help.
