Morobe govt plans to buy training college

THE Morobe government is interested in acquiring the rundown Telikom Training College in Lae, Morobe says provincial administrator Bart Ipambonj.
Ipambonj said the facility would be turned into an incubation centre for small-medium entreprenuers.
The Telikom Training College was abandoned about 10 years ago and has been recently put on tender by the Kumul Telikom Holdings Ltd.
Ipambonj said the provincial government’s plans were in line with National Planning and Monitoring Minister Richard Maru’s vision in establishing SME incubation centres.
Ipambonj said the incubation centre would cater for skills training involving different SME.
He said the training would enhance SMEs to gain skills on how to manage their projects.
Ipambonj said the facility would cater the provincial government’s triple-one (111) policy, designed to enhance rural people on how to generate money.
Most SMEs and cooperative groups involve in cocoa, rice, coffee, fishery, poultry, piggery and fresh produce (horticultural), floriculture and sewing activities.
If acquired, the facility would benefit Lae, Huon Gulf and Nawaeb districts.
Ipambonj said the districts can partner with provincial government and refurbish the facility, with the assistance from national government.
Governor Ginson Saonu said his government was interested in the property.
