Morobe health authority calls for cancellation of incoming flights

THE Morobe health authority (MPHA) has asked that all flights coming into the province from Port Moresby be cancelled until the Covid-19 outbreak there is brought under control.
“There is a high probability that we will see an increase of cases in Morobe in the coming weeks if there is to be an outbreak here,” a MPHA situation report said.
It also said that community transmission within the communities in the province could also increase.
MPHA, through the report, urged people in Morobe to follow Covid-19 protocols such as wearing masks at all times in public places, practice personal hygiene, maintaining social distancing, avoiding touching eyes, nose and others.
It said it was important for people to know that most people who contract the illness would only experience mild symptoms and would get better.
It further advised people in Morobe that if they thought they had contracted the virus to call the national coronavirus hotline on 1800 200 or to go to one of Morobe’s Covid-19 screening locations.
Meanwhile, in a week-long meeting with Morobe district health managers and administrators last week, all districts had in one way or the other put in measures for the Covid-19.
The district teams developed standard operating procedures and set up their clinical spaces as best they can to manage the Covid-19.
“The teams are also present at all entry points into the province at Nadzab Airport, Mutzing and Bulolo Airport,” the report said.
The report, which was signed by MPHA director of public health Micah Yawing, said that all children under five years needed to get immunised as they did not want another outbreak of preventable diseases while they were concentrating on the Covid-19.
MPHA also asked people in Morobe to sew their own masks if they could not afford one.
