THE Morobe government has opened a provincial administration office in Port Moresby to facilitate discussions on the Wafi -Golpu project and Hidden Valley mine, and other matters.
Governor Luther Wenge said it was an initiative of the previous administration to enable the provincial government to be “close to Waigani and Parliament”.
“Morobe is a big province. We have nine districts, and the province serves as the country’s industrial hub,” he said.
“We are looking at exporting cash crops and our livestock, as well as fish and prawn to international markets. “By having an office in Port Moresby, we want to be close to where the action is, where dialogue in business, international trade and investments take place.
“I believe this move is good for business and will help the province.”
He said the office would assist after tertiary students from Morobe studying in Port Moresby on scholarships.
Meanwhile, Tewai-Siassi MP Kobby Bomareo urged the provincial administration to employ people based on merit.
“We should change something if we want Morobe to reap the benefits from Wafi-Golpu and Hidden Valley, and our agriculture and livestock sector,” he said.
“Morobe must get staff who are qualified to run this office where we can see funds from Wafi-Golpu through equity are re-invested to generate more for our people,” Dr Bomareo said.
