THIS weekend will be Morobe Rugby Football Union’s last round of pre-season sevens matches before a national tournament of the short format is announced, according to president Lionel Kamiak.
“We will have last round of pre-season sevens this weekend before we proceed to our planned tournament,” he said.
“An announcement will be made at the field.
“But we will get clarification from the Papua New Guinea Sports Foundation and PNG Rugby Union office regarding the Coronavirus (Covid-19) restrictions before the tournament is held.”
Kamiak said over the last three weeks, a few teams had taken part in the pre-season competition which saw cash prizes and trophies given away after each game.
He said despite no government or corporate support this year, they had utilised whatever resources they had to keep the competition afloat.
“We will have a short season due to the Covid-19 pandemic and other factors affecting our schedule,” Kamiak said.
He said selections for a sevens squad would be made for upcoming tournaments in other provinces.
He said interested clubs were to contact games coordinator Laho Posu on 722 714 54 or via email ([email protected]) to register.
Meanwhile, last weekend, Dirty Eight came out victors in the Cup challenge and City Lights finished as runners-up.
Royals claimed the Plate and Defence finished second.
