MOROBE Rugby Union kicked off its pre-season sevens tournament last weekend with a good turnout expected for the remaining three weeks at Telikom College in Lae.
Four teams kicked off the tournament which saw Dirty 8 beat Defence and Royals triumph over City Lights.
Union president Lionel Kamiak said most teams did not turn up due to the bad weather.
“We will have a short season this year due to the Coronavirus pandemic and other factors affecting our schedule.
“We will run the sevens tournament for four weekends with cash prizes for the winners.
“We’ll then have a national sevens tournament to finish the year.”
Kamiak said selections for their sevens squad would be made during the pre-season for upcoming tournaments in other provinces.
He said interested clubs were to contact games coordinator Laho Posu on 72271454 or via email ([email protected]) to register.
Kamiak said registration was K50 per team.
