THE Morobe government will be supporting Lutheran Shipping Services Ltd’s operation after signing a memorandum of understand with the church and its management company.
Governor Ginson Saonu said the shipping company would be helping transportation needs of the Morobe coastal people in the districts of Finschhafen, Tewae-Siassi, Kabwum and Huon Gulf through its new vessel mv Ialibu.
“The ship will help coastal and island people of this province greatly. We are happy that we now have a sea transport to help our island and coastal people,” he said.
“We will sign a MoU with the church to partner and assist in providing services to people within the province.
“Through a partnership, we can strengthen such services.”
The governor spoke when launching mv Ialibu at the Asiawe Wharf in Voco Point on Saturday. He called on those who were going to manage the ship to be honest.
“Manage the ship honestly with pride and Christian faith so the sea transportation service can better serve our people now and in the future.”
Saonu also said the province was embarking on tourism and that church history would be used as a tourism product.
“Tourism will connect and match church history. We will be emphasising on church tourism as a product, Mitic (gospel) track, where past Kotec and Jabem missionaries followed in evangelism will be marketed.”
