A RECENT soccer and volleyball tournament in Morobe’s Nawaeb district has uncovered talented players who could be provided opportunities to excel, a youth leader says.
Esther Albert, of Yambo village in Labuta local level government area, said the time was right for leaders in the LLG to promote local sportsmen and women so they could develop their skills further.
“We have some talented soccer players among our youths who have the potential to excel further but the opportunities are not there,” she said.
“The tournament is one of a kind where we get to know people from different villages and wards to share, learn and understand each other’s needs.
“After so many years, Labuta LLG has never organised such an event and this is the first time, and many of us women felt it’s a privilege for us to identify the potential we have not only in soccer but volleyball also.”
Tournament official Gilbert Kilamu told The National that the weeklong tournament had not received any support from the district or the LLG.
Kilamu thanked Komokum Fuel Distributors for their financial support.
He said Labuta LLG would be fielding a team in the Football Federation PNG’s National Premier League.
