INTERVENTION by the Lutheran Church and Morobe government in peace negotiations among the people of the Hube local-level government in Finschhafen has shed some light there.
Last week 20 pastors from the church and officials from the provincial government and district visited the LLG to restore peace among the people of Hube.
Over the last 20 years, people in the LLG have been fighting among themselves.
Hube peace-keeping mission chairman Kay Takiseng said the mission was aimed at restoring peace through partnership.
During the visit to wards six to 11, 20 solar panels were distributed to various church denominations in 23 villages and the Wagizaring Health Post.
Takiseng said the Wagizaring post received two solar panels, one for the labour ward and the other for the outpatient ward.
“It is so sorry to see when mothers in labour and light from a mobile phone or torch is used to treat them,” he said.
“That light is not good enough. That is why we gave them two solar lights to the centre.”
Takiseng said the Lutheran mission was looking at delivering musical instruments to those churches in an attempt to get the youths to improve on their behaviours.
Lives have been lost, properties damaged and homes destroyed over the years when people started fighting themselves over land, sorcery accusations, cult practices and other beliefs, he said.
The fights have been ongoing for sometime hindering government and church services to the local level government area.
