Morobe’s Markham adopting govt health policy

MOROBE’s Markham is adopting the government policy of healthy island concept under Vision 2050 to establish healthy communities in the district.
Local MP Koni Iguan said for the district to establish healthy communities under three local level governments (Onga/waffa, Leron/Wantoat and Umi/Atzera), road projects should to reach people
first.
With regards to the healthy island concept, Iguan highlighted that roads had been constructed in the district to support the concept.
“Before we bring any changes to the LLGs, wards and villages, we have to bring in better roads,” he said.
“In the valleys, we have roads, and we have maintenance work regularly to make the roads accessible.
“People must shift from traditional Kunai house to modern-house living where everything is self-contained.” The district development authority under Iguan’s leadership has distributed roofing iron to some communities under the idea of the healthy community.
Meanwhile, in regards to a road projects, Iguan said the Yarus road would connect Umi/Atzera and Leron/Wantoat LLGs.
“Yarus is one of the disadvantaged areas that badly needs road service and it is one of the priorities,” Iguan said.
“The district has bought machines that will be working on the mountain villages.”
Iguan said the district was yet to discuss with the locals regarding the road because three groups of people were working on different directions to link the road to Yarus, which was causing confusion.
