DEPARTMENT of Labour and Employment Secretary Mary Morola has been appointed to join the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit coordination team.
PNG Apec Ambassador Ivan Pomaleu told The National that Morola was the new coordinator for the Labour and Social Protection Network (LSPN), a network under the Human Resources Development Working Group (HRDWG).
He said the HRDWG was a large group reporting to the steering committee on EcoTech (capacity building), which PNG chairs.
Pomaleu said it was established in 1990 and conducts work on human resources development, education, capacity building, cultural awareness and gender equality work.
“There are two other networks under the HRDWG which are: Capacity Building Network (CBN) and Education Network (EDNET),” he said.
“The LSPN which Morola coordinates deals with effective labor market policies, labor force participation and skills development.
“It also works on sharing new and innovative ideas on work place conditions, labor relations, labor and social rights, health and safety, and inclusive participation of all citizens in development, and building capacity through information and exchange of best practice information.
“We are extremely proud of Morola’s appointment as a key coordinator under the HRDWG.”
