A 26-year-old mother of two from Baluan village in Manus will serve a year and three months in jail with hard labour for obtaining K37,950 through false pretence.
The Kokopo National Court sentenced Tracey Aumora to jail after finding her guilty on two counts of false pretence with intention to defraud.
The State alleged that between March and Nov 30 last year, she pretended to be two different persons. Firstly, she held herself out as a Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) pastor and an SDA Minister Shanghai Mara.
Aumora knew Mara and the complainant, Annie Famane.
Pretending to be an SDA pastor, the accused texted her mother and requested her to show the messages to the complainant.
In the messages, she requested money to cover church-run activities and expenses. The complainant, without suspecting, drew various sums from her account and passed them on to Aumore’s  mother to pass to the accused.
Under the disguise of Shanghai Mara, Aumora texted the complainant and left messages.
Aumora pretended to be Mara and promised the complainant that he had plans to marry her.
She then used her mother to collect the money and goods from the complainant.
