MARY Alua, 44, from Nara in Kairuku, Central, is a regular vendor at Lareva market in Hohola, Port Moresby.
Every day, from as early as 6am, she walks down from her home at Hohola to the Lareva market.
She sells pancakes at K1, lunch packs at K5 and hot coffee at K2 a cup.
“This is my work, I stay here until I complete my sales,” Alua said.
“And if not finished, then I go back into the main market and sell the rest before going home.
“I have four school children, three girls and one boy, who are still in lower primary and elementary.
“My husband and I are unemployed and feel the high cost of living.
“So my market is strictly for lunch money and food.
“At the end of the day I have to make sure I buy my flour, rice and coffee for the next day.
“As part of my savings, I put away K5 or more, depending on daily sales.”
