A MOTHER and her two daughters have been arrested when police found marijuana at their home in Kimbe, West New Britain, while the father is on the run.
Kimbe police station commander Daniel Yangen said the officers were to arrest the father who they suspected had been involved in drugs. But when he fled, the officers arrested the wife and daughters. “The father is (allegedly) the ring leader of the drug trading group in Kou village in Naru ward in Kalai-Kove local level government area in Kimbe,” he said.
Yangen said the drug trade had been going on for quite a long time, originating from Goroka, to Lae then to Madang and by speed boat to Kimbe.
“We have received information that when the drug lords from Madang or Lae transported the drugs by boat, they would meet with those from Kimbe on the Vitu Island to do the exchange,” he said.
Yangen sent out officers last Monday and Tuesday to investigate but were unsuccessful.
“I then organised the taskforce on Wednesday with a search warrant.
“We went in on Wednesday 5pm to Kou village,” he said.
He said when they arrived, the “ring leader” fled.
“We managed to find 10 bags of dried marijuana in the ring leader’s house.
“We confiscated it with a homemade gun and a firecracker,” he said.
Yangen said the father would be arrested once they caught up with him.
Meanwhile, he said there was also drug trafficking going into the province on airlines and shipping services.
