A GROUP of women from Vunamami ward one in the Kokopo-Vunamami Urban local level government (KVULLG) of Kokopo area in East New Britain raised funds to pay school fees for their children.
The 14 mothers, who have children attending Joshila Phonics School, took turns selling cooked food and other items and helping each other with money.
One of the women, Atio Sikiel said each mother had her turn to sell her items and receive K50 from the others to help with her sales.
Sikiel said they started fundraising three weeks ago specifically to help them pay their children’s outstanding school fees.
“As mothers we tried to help each other by completing the outstanding fees for our children as we do not want to give burden to our husbands,” Sikiel said.
“We do not want to rely on our husbands’ fortnight salaries but we want to help share the responsibility.”
