THE Motu-Koita Assembly says they have not had an opportunity to look at the updated electoral roll as writs are set to be issued on Thursday for their election.
Acting chairman Opao Udia said updating had been done but during the process, the enrolment forms were limited.
“And when it ran out, they asked people to send in the list of names to be enrolled,” Udia said.
“So in that process, I do not want unnecessary people to be included.
“I want the people of Motu Koita to know that we are yet to be given the opportunity to look at the updated roll, there has been updating done but the public, the voting population has not been given the opportunity to look at it.”
Udia wants the Electoral Commission to give them that opportunity.
“During the updating, we had confusion like outsiders married into a Motu-Koitabu society being left out. We raised that concern with the commission and I think that is being sorted out.
“That is why I say that we have not been given the opportunity to check the common roll and now they are telling us that we go to the polls according to the issue of the writs,”
According to the Electoral Commission, there are almost 48,400 Motu-Koitabuans going to the polls.
“But my concern is the accuracy of the roll itself,” Udia said.
“Whether they have taken back those they took out, this is regarding the outsiders married into the Motu-Koitabu society, and the new entries after the 2013 elections.”
