AITAPE-LUMI MP Anderson Mise has allocated K270,000 for the rehabilitation and upgrading of the Sierra-Onei stretch of road in West Sepik’s Aitape-Vanimo area.
“The money is for clearing, grabbing and grading the newly cut road to create a bypass or diverted route on the Sierra terrains,” he said.
“It was brought to my attention that many accidents and incidents occurred along the inland and coastal Sepik highways over the past few months were due to bad road conditions.”
Mise said Aitape was a transit town and Lumi was also situated among other districts, “therefore I am also appealing to other MPs and our two governors (West and East Sepik) for all of us to pool resources and work towards improving the Sepik coastal and inland highways”.
Mise said all feeder roads and bypass routes must also be considered as in times of emergency, those roads would be used.
