SUMKAR MP Chris Nangoi has applauded churches for their continuous support of the Government in ensuring that basic services reach the rural population.
During the launching of four new classrooms for FH Christian School at Kuburne Elementary School on Karkar Island, Nangoi said he was impressed with the way churches ran organisations such as schools and how they utilised Government funding to complete projects.
Nangoi, who is also Correctional Services Minister, said it was through Christian values and fear of mismanagement that most Government-funded projects in church-run institutions were delivered transparently.
“I compare this school to other Government schools that were given the same amount of funding – this one has delivered four classrooms at a cost of only K20,000 while others have delivered half completed or only one classroom,” he said.
“The difference is that project owners seem to absorb funds through transportation of materials, overhead and labour, rather than fully utilising the funds on the project itself.
“I thank the school administration and board for doing a tremendous job in ensuring the project was completed on time with the allocated funding.”
Nangoi made a commitment to pay for desks and chairs.
The four new classrooms at Kuburne Elementary School were funded through the Sumkar development authority.
