HEALTH workers at four church-run health centres in Maprik, East Sepik will now continue providing health services following a commitment of K100,000 for their salaries.
The commitment was made by Maprik MP John Simon during the opening of a new community health workers training centre at Albinama, in the Bumbita-Muhian local level government.
Almost all health workers in the health centres at Albinama, Brugam, Ulupu and Illahita walked off their jobs after not being paid since February.
Simon said health workers were important to people in rural areas as they provided health care services.
He said the K100,000 would be for their salaries alone.
He said the health centre at Mairawi in Maprik Wora would be renovated.
It provides midwife and outpatient services manned by a nurse and three volunteers.
Another K100,000 has been allocated for the new community health workers training centre which comes under the South Seas Evangelical Church.
It will cater for the first 40 students next year.
Simon said it was a great initiative and would be the first health workers training centre in Maprik and East Sepik. He thanked the people of Albinama and Bumbita- Muhian for building it.
