GUMINI in Chimbu has the resources to stimulate economic activity in the district, says MP Nick Kuman.
Kuman highlighted during a forum with professionals from the district in Port Moresby that there was potential for the development of the extractive sector in Gumine.
He said there are evidence of gold, oil and gas deposits in areas in the district which needed exploration and development.
“Gumini has got a lot of potential,” Kuman said.
“I know that there is potential for extractive industry in the district.
“They are there.
“There is one alluvial gold mine at the back of Karamui and Kerowagi.
“There is serious alluvial gold mining going on.
“There is also evidence of oil and gas deposits.”
Kuman said the district was investing in health and education.
It also has agriculture programmes in partnership with the Fresh Produce Development Authority including onions, potatoes and cocoa.
He said to develop the district, the “professionals” of Gumini must work together to enhance the lives to the people.
