AMBUNTI-Dreikikir MP Ezekiel Anisi is confident that his East Sepik electorate will achieve some significant developments in the next three years.

Anisi, a MP from Prime Minister Peter O’Neill’s People’s National Congress Party, said his district was one of the least developed in the country but he believed the government would deliver some services which had been lacking for years.

He was speaking during presentation since of a vehicle to Drekikir police in Wewak at the weekend.

“I want to assure you, people of Ambunti-Dreikikir district, that we are in the government and this presentation is the start of many good things to come,” Anisi said.

“Before any development comes, we must properly equip our police so that they can provide an environment which is conducive to development.

“This is the first police vehicle, we have two more coming and I will buy firearms and uniforms for my policemen. Plans are underway to improve existing police houses and build a few more to increase the current police strength in the district,” Anisi said.

Provincial police commander Chief Supt Joe Poma expressed appreciation and pledged his support to work with him to improve law and order in the district.

Poma told Dreikikir rural police station commander Snr Const John Kantipil that the vehicle was bought using the people of Ambunti-Dreikikir’s money and therefore it should be used for its intended purpose of providing a professional policing service to them.

He added that the government was working towards increasing the nationwide police strength to between 18,000 and 19,000 members and the province should capture this goal by building more police houses in order to attract more policemen and women.

“We need trained policemen and women from the Bomana Police College to replace the auxiliaries who often do not know how to make arrests and prepare court papers, thus jeopardising police effort in prosecuting criminal cases,” Poma said.
