HUON Gulf MP Ross Seymour has encouraged local leaders and people to work together to improve service delivery in the electorate.
“Forget criticisms, support me, let us unite, share ideas and work together to serve the interest of our people in Morobe, Salamaua and Wampar,” he said.
Seymour was responding to a Facebook post that criticised his performance and claimed that little had been achieved despite receiving K10 million in district services improvement programme (DSIP) funds annually compared to the K500,000 in the past.
“Your (critics) time will come in April 14, 2022, and currently, I am still the mandated leader and it is my responsibility to visit our people and support them, it’s not yet time to play politics,” he said.
“I am your brother, I have no grudges against you, yet you continuously criticise me in Facebook comparing K500,000 with K10 million today.
“Let me assure you that times have changed and the cost of goods and services have increased while the kina value has depreciated.”
Seymour said though the Government had appropriated K10 million DSIP to 89 districts, the allocation was determined by the revenues generated into national purse.
He said that K1 million was received after every six months and divided into district’s 64 wards, K15,625 was given per ward which meant much could not be achieved.
Seymour said people and churches also had their own needs thus the DDA scrutinised and allocated funds equitably.
“Service is not something that occurs overnight, it takes time so I urge you to support and work with me.”
