MORESBY South MP Justin Tkatchenko says the new 6-Mile market will generate financial opportunities for the people.

He urged the people of Ragamuga settlement to look after the market which will be opened soon.

“With the market opening in the next two weeks, we want to register all the women from Ragamuga and 6-Mile,” he said.

“You will be registered with an ID, and that is including all the youths who want to do informal marketing.

“You may market as well as it is about making money.

“It is about supporting yourselves and looking after your families and the community at large.

“Two of the market houses will be for beetle nuts (buying  and selling).

“The public can come, buy the betel nut and go.

“It’s not (the place) for chewing.

“The most important thing is betel nut generates a lot of money.”

He said the reason why National Capital District Governor Powes Parkop banned betel nut was because of health issues.

He urged the community to look after the market.
