GOILALA MP Daniel Mona has paid K25,000 as schools fees for students from the district attending the University of Papua New Guinea.

He gave the cheque to deputy bursar Kelly Goni last Friday, and urged students to work hard and take their studies seriously.

Mona said the funds were from the district services improvement programme and all Goilala students would be supported in their education.

“Only a few Goilalas have gone on to university level and there is a huge gap that needs to be filled,” he said.

“Your behaviour in school is very important and you must show up for lessons and make good use of this privilege as the people of Goilala are investing in you.”

Mona said one of his objectives was to build human resource capacity in the district.

He will give K5,000 to the UPNG Goilala Students’ Association to open an account and use the money for  various activities.

Mona said more school fees would be paid out to students attending various tertiary and vocational institutions in Port Moresby, Central and other parts of the country through the K250,000 allocated to education through the district services improvement programme funds.

He stressed that students were required to return to the district to serve and help develop it.

Mona said funding would also be allocated to upgrade and improve infrastructure for various schools in the district and introduce computing skills at the primary school level.

It will start at the Tolukuma Primary School.

Mona said to motivate children to attend school in the district, each child would be given a plate of rice for lunch when they attended school.

He also confirmed that each school in the district would receive K5,000 to cover project fees.
