MP plans development for Samarai-Murua

THE Samarai-Murua electorate in Milne Bay is expecting big developments in infrastructure and human resources after been neglected since 1975, local MP Isi Henry Leonard says.
Leonard said infrastructure developments included the upgrading of the airport, roads, water supply and schools on Misima and Woodlark islands.
“I have already paid K3 million for full school fees for our children since 2018 to attend 48 tertiary institutions throughout the country,” he said.
“These institutions included universities, nursing, teaching, business, technical colleges and private institutions like Mapex and International Training Institution (ITI).
“My district development authority is paying 100 per cent school fees.
“We don’t provide school subsidies because we believe in developing our future human resources as an educated population will bring quality development to our electorate.”
Leonard said the DDA allocated K5 million for Misima ring road upgrading, K1.5 million to Misima Secondary High School and K1 million to upgrade the Misima airport.
“The rotting bridge at Gulewa village, along the ring road, will be replaced by a new one at the cost of K500,000 has already been bought and are now in Port Moresby ready to be shipped to Misima,” he said.
“We will also upgrade the Guasopa Primary School on Woodlark Island to become a secondary high school by next year.
“It will have grade 12 when becoming a secondary school.”

  • Samarai/ Murua electorate does not consist ONLY of Misima & Woodlark; Mr MP!!

Stretch out to Basilaki/ Sideia, the Rossel/ Sudest Island, the Conflicts and Samarai Island itself.
In fact, Samarai Island being a declared Heritage Island should be developed as a major tourist hub!!! The island and its surrounding areas have a lot of history!!! That’s a potentially huge revenue earner right there.
