MAPRIK MP John Simon has committed K100,000 to help cocoa and coffee production in the Albinama villages in East Sepik.
Simon, who is also Agriculture and livestock Minister, recently visited the Muhian A1 zone central nursery in Albinama which has about 15,000 cocoa seedlings.
He described the nursery as a success story for the Maprik economic zone established as a sustainable inclusive economic development model based on family units and smallholder farmers.
It aims to reduce poverty and contribute to economic independence. The Muhian A1 zone central nursery was established with contribution from the villagers.
Zone chairman Nelson Aiwan said the nursery began with just K5,000.
Aiwan said the zone concept was a great initiative which had been in existence for a long time but never fully used.

  • Please do not ignore oil palm.
It has bailed out national government to pay salaries of public servants last year.
However other crops seemed to get more recognition than oil palm.
