A HELA MP has pledged to purchase a scanning machine for his district hospital after watching a drama performed by locals which depicted the hardship local women faced when giving birth in the village.
Komo-Margarima MP Manaseh Makiba who was moved by the performance which highlighted the need for men, especially husbands, to play an active role in helping their wives, made the commitment last Thursday.
He told fathers at Margarima station during the installation of a doctor and his vehicle, house and a 45KVA generator, that they needed to make sure their wives gave birth at health facilities.
“The drama touched me, we (fathers) do not respect our wives, we are good at letting them bare our children on their own,” he said.
“It is time we change our attitudes and behaviour, we must now accompany our wives to health facilities.”
Hela health authority chief executive Dr James Kintwa said the construction of “waiting houses” at every health facility was the PHA’s next target to make sure all mothers gave birth at the facilities and not in their villages.
He said when they were about to give birth, they should go to the waiting house.
“We will provide food and help will be given, it is our priority,” he said.
“It is the work of fathers to bring their wives to the health facilities.
“PHA is doing so much to improve maternity wards.”
