POMIO MP Elias Kapavore has questioned the establishment of the new Agricultural Ministry if the Government is serious about investing in the sector.
“A channel of communication and reporting structure must clearly define their roles so that they can effectively carry out their duties,” he told Parliament.
“This will also help MPs who would like to talk to them about starting agricultural projects in their districts.” Kapavore said Prime Minister James Marape appointed three other ministries supporting the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock through coffee, livestock and oil palm.
“We would like this clarified how their departments will be addressing the needs of farmers, consumers and the people,” he said.
“The people are wondering how they will report to each of the ministers, where are the secretaries and ministerial staff?”
Kapavore said it was important to invest in agriculture and he would like to see Marape set up respective offices soon.
