MP subsidises airfares for Jimi

JIMI MP Wake Goi has reduced airfares for people in his district from K280 to K65, a drop of 77 per cent.
From an initial deposit of K250,000 he made with Missionary Aviation Fellowship last year to subsidise flights from K280 to K120, he made a second payment of K250,000 to further reduce the fares from K120 to K65.
“Our target for airfares subsidy for our people is K2 million within our term,” Goi said.
“We are doing this to give opportunity to most of our people to make use of air service.
“Road access at this point of time has been cut off by bad weather.
“Three of our bridges have been completely washed away by flood and several others including the culvert bridges are on the brink of collapse. “We want more people to travel by plane to and from the four airstrips we have.
“We thank the Mission Aviation Fellowship for being our faithful flyer for so long.
“We also want to improve two-way radio communications with MAF and maintain the existing airstrips and build additional ones.”
Goi said public servants and the public who wished to travel in and out of Jimi would pay K65 across the board starting next month.
“I will pay another K250,000 to the MAF maintenance team to fix all airstrip in Jimi,” he said.
The aviation’s staff thanked Goi for subsidising airfare and partnering with MAF for Jimi people to continue to benefit from an affordable air service.
