West New Britain (WNB) will soon establish Bare Foot College in the province to train mothers to be solar engineers, Governor Sasindran Muthuvel says.
 Muthuvel said that at a press conference when introducing six grandmothers from the province who left for India for the bare foot college training.
Bare Foot College is a village-based training in India which is offered to semi-illiterate grandmothers mostly in rural areas to train as solar engineers.  He said they allocated K500, 000 to establish a building for the PNG Bare Foot College and paid over $US58,000 (K141,500) to secure equipment and tools to set up the college.
He said they are yet to get approval from the national government under the Education’s Tertiary Vocation Education Training (TVET) as they would give their recognition.
Muthuvel said the provincial executive committee (PEC) had endorsed a facility which was used as the West New Britain textile centre to be used for this initiative.
