SUMKAR MP Chris Nangoi has encouraged his constituents to start investing in permanent houses.
He told his people at the Sumgilbar local level government (LLG) in Sumkar, Madang, to do away with traditional sago-thatched roof buildings.
Nangoi, who is the Minister for Correctional Service, was at a gathering at Mugil Station on Friday.
He delivered two machines to be used to produce roofing iron and V-crimp sheets.
“This project is for you the people, which will have an impact on your lives,” Nangoi said.
“I want you to take the initiative to start building permanent houses because the roofing iron and walls will be provided by your district administration.
“We have to change with it (world) or we will be left behind.
“There is no room for lazy people so I want you all to take the responsibility to find timber and build good homes which will change our way of living.”
Nangoi said the district development authority would fund 24 roofing-iron sheets and 24 V-crimp sheets per family for free.
He said the people need to register to receive them to build their homes.
Sumgilbar development authority women’s representative Lucy Baduk thanked Nangoi for the initiative. She asked him to look at funding more projects to benefit households in the LLG.
“We have waited too long for this project and we are grateful for it, but we want more projects which will benefit us mothers and children in the homes,” Baduk said.
Youth representative Leo Aiteng called on Nangoi and his DDA to ensure the project rollout continued.
This is the second set of machines, with one already being delivered for Karkar LLG.
