MPs receive Queen’s award

WHILE the rest of their colleagues were busy with the 2012 elections, it was a pleasant surprise for five members of parliament to be honoured in the 2012 Queen’s birthday awards.
Governor of Milne Bay Luke Crittin was awarded the highest Order of the British Empire (KBE) his colleagues Moses Maladina and Don Pomb Polye the Order of Saint Michael and Saint George, (CMG). Francis Awesa and Ken Fairweather were awarded the Order of the British Empire (CBE).
Senior citizen Brown Bai was the only other recipient of the Order of the British Empire (KBE), for his distinguished service to agriculture, manufacture and petroleum.
Prominent businessmen Theophilus George Constantinou and Luciano Cragnolini were awarded the next highest of Knight Bachelor for their long and extensive services to commerce, construction and humanitarian causes.
Longtime journalist John Barnabas Orere was also among more than 70 upstanding citizens who were recipients of various meritorious titles.
Orere was awarded a MBE for his services to journalism and the
Anglican Church.
A number of prominent public servants, civil servants and businessmen were also recognised for their long services in their respective fields.
