MPs should know key statistics

Letters

RABAUL MP Dr Allan Marat questioned the integrity of the common roll and Prime Minister James Marape responded alluding to two main reasons – Coronavirus and the political impasse.
While we appreciate the reasons provided by Marape in Parliament on Tuesday, it is embarrassing for a prime minister to say he does not know his country’s population.
The prime minister of any country should be well informed with such key statistics.
If international development partners ask Marape about the population of PNG, can he say he doesn’t know?
Our MPs should know the country’s facts and figures when representing PNG at the world stage.
For example; the Education minister should know the figures of students who have secured places in higher institutions and those who have not.
When questioned, you can’t say “I don’t know the actual data”.
This is something to keep in mind.
Thank you Dr Marat
