Mum sees demand for guava

MOTHER-of-five Edith Babul has started guava farming after noticing the demand it has in the market.
Babul owns about 10,000 guava trees at 16-Mile in Wampar, Huon Gulf, Morobe.
Babul, from Northern, Gulf and Chimbu, started her farm at the Ngalonzua after buying two 60 toea guava from Munum market and took the seeds to her house.
She planted 10 guava trees beside her house and madeher first sale at the Lae Main Market.
She earned K308.
This motivated her to resign from her job and concentrate on farming.
She now owns five hectares of land where there are 10,985 guava trees.
She is assisted by four employees.
“I don’t only grow guava, but other fruits too, along with looking after livestock,” she said.
“Farming is interesting even though it’s hard managing it.
“But it’s very helpful in terms of finance. I pay my children’s school fees with other things.
“I see money every day because I am my own boss.”
