A SINGLE mother was allegedly stabbed to death by her former husband under the influence of alcohol in Hagen city, Western highlands.

Provincial police commander Chief Superintendent Martin Lakari told The National yesterday that the former husband allegedly under the influence of alcohol approached his wife, started an argument with her before stabbing her with a kitchen knife, killing her instantly on the Oct 11.

Lakari identified the deceased as Racheal Nita of Enga origin and residing with family at Tarangau in Hagen city.

He said that her former husband, Jericho Perano, also from Enga but residing in Hagen, was arrested and charged with wilful murder.

He said that the motive of the killing was not known and police were investigating the matter to establish the reasons.

Supt Lakari appealed to the relatives of the deceased and accused to maintain peace and allow the law to take its course.

He said the accused was already in police custody and there was no need to create another problem that would affected the police from carrying out their investigation.

Meanwhile, Lakari said the alcohol-related problem in Hagen was a big concern for the police that prompted him to launched special operation last week to crack down on alcohol and marijuana related problems in the city.
