MUMUTS beat JV Bulldogs 14-6 in the Motor Vehicle Insurance Ltd Morata Offseason Rugby League women’s competition at the Kone Tigers Oval on Sunday.
Although the match did not reach any great heights there was no denying the commitment and enthusiasm the players showed in a clash of the Morata women and the June Valley newcomers.
The bandicoots with lanky Potchi Awo, Marianne Kua, Cathy Tamu and Christina Stape led their side’s charge against dogs.
Bulldogs were understandably tentative but held their own against their more experienced opponents.
Mumuts score three tries to one with Fredlyn Ali, Nancy Hicks and Tammy Jackson grabbing the four pointers while Jackson kicked two goals.
Bulldogs got on the board through Mellissa Afken and Lovelyn John kicked the conversion.
Mumuts led 10-0 at halftime.
After five rounds Megusa Sisters lead the competition on 10 points followed by Mumuts (7), M3 Bulldogs (6), JV Bulldogs (4), Freeway Magani (2) and 38 Jets (1).
Competition treasurer John Mawe said the women’s would have a six-team playoff format.
