THE Oceania Fight Promotions is set to host international professional boxing bouts on Sunday with former Australian professional boxer and former National Rugby League (NRL) star Anthony Mundine attending as a guest.
The fight night at Sir John Guise Stadium Indoor Complex will see Papua New Guinea super middleweight champion Andrew Aisanga (The Snake) take on Australian Ali Elrich (The Technician) in the main bout.
There will be two other international bouts which will see PNG’s 2015 Pacific Games gold medal winner Tom Boga take on Australia’s Ben Campbell in the welterweight division while PNG’s Lui Magaiva will face Thailand’s Pom Phetkum in the super featherweight division.
OFP fight promoter Maryanne Millie told The National yesterday that Mundine’s presence would give the event a boost.
“The overseas fighters’ have been organised by Barry Michael a former International Boxing Federation (IBF) title holder and Australian boxing legend in the 1970 and 80s,” Millie said.
“Michael will be accompanied by another former Australian boxer and World Boxing Association two-time super middleweight champion and former National Rugby League star Anthony Mundine and sport broadcaster, author and radio personality Bruce Eva as special guests for the boxing event.
“The international fighters and guests are due to arrive in the country on Saturday
Which is the eve of the event and the weigh-in of the boxers.
“Tickets are on sale going for K30 outer-stands and corporate tables are going for K10,000.”
Aisanga has a clean record in their professional career, recording four wins and no loses while Elrich has six wins, a draw and no losses.
This is a preparatory fight for Aisanga’s International title fight scheduled for early next year against Philippines’s super middleweight world champion Mark Sales. Sales lost on points to Aisanga in 2020.
There will be six local undercard bouts in the lead-up to three international bouts.
Millie is grateful the Australian and Thai boxers accepted the challenge to take on the PNG boxers in Port Moresby.
