MUNGKAS consolidated their position with a 2-1 win over equally determined VAT Yamaros in the Ox & Palm Women National Soccer League in Port Moresby at the Bisini Oval on Saturday.
The Clement Cafu Anisan-coached team raced away with 15 points followed closely by University Inter FC after their huge 6-0 win over Hekari on 8 points.
Yamaros are on third spot with 8 points while Hekari are still trailing with 2 points.
Lanky striker Fatima Rama from Baramundi land was the star of the side picking up two goals in the 57th and the 58th minute after trailing 1-0 at half time.
Yamaros scored their goal through Samantha Peninsa who headed a good cross from the corner for the opening goal of the match in the 28th minute.
Peninsa was well supported by flankers Flare Sali and Flossie Makeu and good support from backline players Martha Kiapin, Elaine Lema and Prisha Peninsa.
 Delilah Waive tried her best upfront but could not find the net.
Mungkas players in backliners Cathy Horris, Joy Tsuga, Dorcas Sesevo flankers Ramona Morris and midfielder May Liosi and Claire Tsuga – all contributed towards their win to cement their position as leaders.
In the other women’s game, the sleeping giants University Inter FC put on a class act to demolish former champions Hekari 6-0.
The whole match belonged to the Francis Moiyap coached side as they put on a superb performance to make their opponents look like school girls on the training park.
The star-studded side with the inclusion of Pacific Games players Linda Bunanga, Francisca Mandoni, Miriam Louma, Barbara Muta, Janie Norrie, Esther Kurabi and Deslyn Siniu, they were too good on the day.
Striker Esther Muta collected a double on the day, Siniu picked up a trifecta while Madang import Tracy Kig kicked a goal – the highest goal scoring spree in NSL in two years.
The combination of Muta and Siniu was superb while midfielders Kig and Muta
were also commendable.
