A FATHER of three is expected to appear in the Mt Hagen District Court for allegedly killing a university student last month in Jiwaka.
Provincial police commander Insp Gideon Kauke said the 50-year-old was charged with wilful murder this week and detained in Jiwaka.
“The court will decide whether to remand him at Baisu Prison in Western Highlands or Barawagi Prison in Chimbu,” he said.
Kauke said the suspect had been on the run for three weeks but surrendered to police on Christmas Eve.
Stenic Whome Poiya, 25, a University of PNG tourism and hospitality final-year student, was spending his holiday in the village when he was killed. Poiya and four friends were walking home from Kindeng market at about 8pm on Dec 14 when the suspect alleged fired at least three times while chasing a thief who he claimed had broken into his store.
