A SUSPECT wanted for the death of a man during a clash at the 8-Mile settlement in Port Moresby is in police custody, a senior police officer says.
Port Moresby Metro police commander Supt Gideon Ikumu said yesterday that the suspect had been charged with murder and detained at the Boroko Police Station.
Supt Ikumu said the man would appear before the Waigani District Court for committal proceedings.
He said the suspect was accused of killing a man during a drunken brawl on July 8 which also led to the burning down of seven houses.
Supt Ikumu said a drunken brawl broke out in which the suspect allegedly wounded the victim who was taken to the Port Moresby General Hospital but pronounced dead on arrival.
“The deceased’s clansmen then went to the suspect’s area and burnt seven houses belonging to the suspect’s relatives.
“The suspect’s relatives then began mobilising to start another fight.”
