Murdered deaf person’s case adjourned

A 21-YEAR-OLD man charged with the wilful murder of a deaf person appeared in the Waigani Committal Court yesterday and Magistrate Paul Nii adjourned the case for mention.
Berman Trohasi, of Kwarabi village, Yangoru-Saussia in East Sepik, was allegedly seen at Sepik Block, 8-Mile, at the back of McGregor Barracks in Port Moresby on Oct 4.
He was allegedly under the influence of alcohol and in the company the deaf person, someone known in the community.
Police claimed Trohasi got into a fight with the person and punched him on the face twice.
When the person fell to the ground, Trohasi allegedly kicked his head with his barefoot.
He then left him lying and left.
The community attended to the man and poured water over him.
He was later taken to hospital but died the next day.
The accused surrendered to police at the McGregor Police Barracks and was later charged at Boroko.
Trohasi will return to court tomorrow for further mention.

  • It is sad and yet true but and then no sane person would harm a person with disability for no reason. There has to be a reason for such actions. Defendant, yes, has no right to do that to a person with disability. Like wise even the person with disability has no right to cause a harm or does it justify that he/she with a disability can cause harming or to be harmed. It is interesting to know what actually happened as this story tells just a tip of the incident and does not really make sense as to many questions arise.
