THE head of a teacher killed at Bau Primary School in south Ambenob, Madang, was retrieved and handed over to Governor Peter Yama late on Thursday.
Acting provincial administrator John Bivi, provincial Works manager Simon Simoi and former Madang MP Buka Malai were present at the handing over.
It followed a series of negotiations between Yama’s office, MP Bryan Kramer and Madang local leaders and the community at Dalam village on Thursday.
Police investigations are underway into the killing.
William Wiru, a spokesperson for the relatives of the late teacher, said rumours of relatives going to Madang by busloads to retaliate were false.
“Only nine of us, the late teacher’s immediate relatives, two pastors, community leaders and Yamala ward councillor in the Kewabi LLG area of Ialibu in Southern Highlands, came to repatriate the body” Wiru said.
“We came as a team in peace, sent by our people to take the body of our loved one home for a decent burial.
“We have nothing to do with this problem in Madang so please do not involve us as we have no knowledge of any happenings here.”
Pastor Benny Kamu, a relative, expressed the family’s gratitude to Yama, Kramer, local leaders and police for assistance in recovering the head.
