MENDI Muruks will look to continue their perfect start when they host Rabaul Gurias in round three of the Digicel Cup at the Lae Rugby League Ground on Sunday (3pm kick-off).
But the Agmark-sponsored Gurias will be expected to rise to the challenge as they would look to bounce back from their 8-9 loss to Port Moresby Vipers in the nation’s capital last week.
Gurias coach Francis Ray said last Sunday that his side, who have so far recorded one win and a loss, would need to improve on their attack against the Petroleum Resources Kutubu-backed home side.
“Against the Vipers, we had a poor attack, which cost us dearly,” the Papua New Guinea Kumuls legend said.
“So we certainly have to work on it before we face the Muruks.
“I am disappointed with our first loss, but I think it was a good learning curve for us.
“We cwill get better in the games to come.
“We will have to play a lot better to bounce back from the loss.”
The Muruks recorded wins over Kimbe Cutters and Mt Hagen Eagles in round one and round two respectively.
The Roderick Puname-coached side recorded a comfortable win over Cutters, but they struggled against the Eagles, who fell to a 20-22 loss in Minj last Sunday.
Former SP Hunters pair Charlie Simon and Justin Yoka will look to steer the attack of the Muruks, who also boast try-scoring duo Leon Undupie and Bob Tenza.
The Gurias’ attack will feature Saki Peter, Wesley Batari, veteran Ase Boas and Stanley Olo.
Kumuls winger Garry Lo will play his third game in Gurias colours. Fixtures: Sun, May 8 – Muruks v Gurias, Tigers v Eagles, Mioks v Tumbe, Lahanis v Isou, Vipers v Wigmen, Dabaris v Cutters.
